Executive Director, Heartland Alliance Global Initiatives for Human Rights
Stefano Fabeni, LLM, J.D., is the Executive Director of Heartland Alliance’s Global Initiatives for Human Rights. Based in Washington, DC, Stefano previously worked as Director of the LGBTI Initiative for Global Rights, Partners for Justice, and with LGBT grassroots activists in over thirteen countries, developing capacity to plan and execute rights and advocacy strategies.
Stefano served as the Italian member of the European Group of Experts on Combating Discrimination on grounds of Sexual Orientation. He was the conceiver and the coordinator of the Center of Research and Legal Comparative Studies on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity project (CERSGOSIG-InformaGay), as well as its project director, running the center’s legal database on sexual orientation and gender identity.
He has served for several years as a pro bono legal advisor and consultant of the New Rights Department of the national trade union Confederazione Generale Italiana del Lavoro (the Italian Labor General Confederation). Mr. Fabeni also has served as a consultant and legal expert for members of the Italian Parliament, institutions, consultancy firms and NGOs throughout Europe, as well as for the World Health Organization.
