Michael Goldberg Updated May 2011Michael Goldberg is a vice president of Heartland Alliance and executive director of Heartland Housing, Inc.

Mr. Goldberg brings 20 years of professional housing development and community planning experience to this position. For six years, he has served as Heartland Alliance’s director and senior director of real estate development. In this role Mr. Goldberg was responsible for managing the development of Heartland Alliance’s affordable and supportive housing portfolio. Mr. Goldberg and his development team closed on financing and have begun construction of more than 715 affordable housing units in Illinois and Wisconsin, including the redevelopment of public housing units into a mixed-income community, providing permanent supportive housing for the homeless, seniors, and individuals with mental illness.

Prior to joining Heartland Alliance in 2003, Mr. Goldberg was senior planner with the consulting firm of SmithGroupJJR. In this position Mr. Goldberg helped manage a team of urban planning and design professionals that served public and private clients throughout the Midwest. Mr. Goldberg has also coordinated housing and urban planning initiatives as staff of the Chicago Department of Planning and Development and New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Mr. Goldberg holds a bachelor’s of science degree and a master’s of science degree in urban and regional planning, both from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
