Vice President, Donor and Community Relations, Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights

Mary Barton Updated May 2011Ms. Barton joined Heartland Alliance in October 1996 and oversees the organization's fundraising efforts. She leads a team of seven individuals responsible for securing private and in-kind donations through several campaigns and special events. Funds raised by the Donor & Community Relations department both fill gaps that exists between what governmental and institutional funders provide and what it takes to deliver quality, effective programs. They also pave the way in providing leadership around emergent social issues, addressing issues before they become a crisis.

Ms. Barton has more than 15 years of experience in fundraising for the nonprofit sector. Prior to joining Heartland Alliance, she served as Director of Development for The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois. She previously worked at Horizon Hospice in Chicago, and has volunteered her time for nearly a dozen other organizations.

Ms. Barton currently serves on the Board of Directors of Sympho, Inc. in New York, and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Ms. Barton received her bachelor of arts degree from Denison University.
