Heartland Human Care Services is the leading direct service human rights organization developing and implementing solutions to the toughest societal challenges in metropolitan Chicago, the Midwest and, on select issues, the nation. Heartland Human Care Services plays a significant role within Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights, complementing its housing and health care efforts.
Together with government, other nonprofits, the business community, funders, and residents of the communities served, we create realistic paths from harm to hope for people marginalized by poverty, displacement, and situations of vulnerability. Through individually tailored comprehensive planning and service delivery, we engage families, adults, seniors, and youth in mutually developed, strength-based actions to help people achieve their goals, find stability, and realize their human rights. Our innovative approach supports the cycles of change resulting in significant and measurable gains in the lives of individual participants and the broader community.
We've been an active member of the community since 1888, serving over 200,000 persons a year through programs, referrals, or needed information. Each year, we work with participants to develop solutions to challenges of:
