Vincent summarizes his old life with a simple, chilling explanation: "I was damaged goods." Feeling abandoned by his family, he turned first to alcohol, then heroin as he lived on the streets. Through the Stable Futures program at Heartland Alliance, Vincent was provided a place to live and supportive services to help him in his quest to change his life. With an apartment lease in his name, a part-time job and a budget, he has worked hard to build a stable future. "I can't believe it," he says with pride. "Sometimes I come home and I just want to cry because, this is mine."
