More than 47 million people in the U.S. are uninsured, and nearly one out of every seven Illinois residents, or 1.7 million people, lacks health insurance.  Health care is a fundamental human right- this belief is the cornerstone of Heartland Alliance's health care programs and public policy efforts.

Heartland Alliance specializes in providing and advocating for accessible, affordable health care services to those who have historically been hardest to reach – people who are homeless, immigrants, refugees, people experiencing mental illness, and those with substance use issues.  Our work includes:

Comprehensive Health Care Services

Our diverse programs and services set the standard for inclusive, multi-disciplinary treatment.  We provide a full range of primary, mental health, dental, oral, and substance use treatment and care.  Heartland Alliance health care professionals consider every aspect of a participant's life – family, work, housing, and lifestyle- in providing services.  Our health care services include:

• Primary care: Routine physicals, diagnostic testing, treatment of chronic illness, pre-natal care, nutrition counseling, and family planning.

• Mental health and substance use treatment: Outpatient and community support services and a continuum of residential and housing program options.

• Dental health: Preventive and restorative care, oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics.

Health Care Policy Analysis and Advocacy:
