The TANF WorkFirst Program is a job training program focused on assisting individuals receiving TANF benefits increase their work skills and obtain permanent unsubsidized employment. Eligible individuals work with staff to complete individualized skills and needs assessments and to set goals related to employment. Participants subsequently engage in various work and training activities, including work experience, community service, unsubsidized and subsidized employment experiences, vocational training, job search and job readiness activities, and other job skill training. Participants continue these activities until permanent employment is obtained or until it is determined that participation is no longer an appropriate activity for the individual.
