Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program Employment and Training

The SNAP E&T program is a job training program focused on assisting recipients of SNAP benefits enhance their work skills and obtain permanent unsubsidized employment.  Eligible individuals work with staff to complete individualized skills and needs assessments and to set goals related to employment.  Participants subsequently engage in various work and training activities, including Adult Basic Education, vocational training, work experience, and job search and job readiness activities. Participants also receive assistance with work-related expenses during the first 30 days of a job.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Between the ages of 18 and 49
• Receive SNAP benefits
• Possess a valid IL state ID/Drivers License and Social Security card
• Not currently receiving Unemployment Insurance

Applying for Services:

• Services available by referral from the Illinois Department of Human Services, which can be done either directly by the IDHS case manager or by a HHCS staff person through the reverse referral process
