Integrated Health Care in Iraq is a program designed to address the long-term impact of torture in Iraq by integrating mental health services into the Iraqi primary health care system. This is done through the training of community mental health workers on skills needed to provide psychosocial services -- including treatment planning, suicide prevention services, and substance abuse treatment -- to survivors of torture and trauma and to others dealing with mental health issues. The program has trained 200 community mental health workers and 100 physicians in 15 of Iraq's 18 governorates to provide psychosocial services through remote health centers.
