Asset-Building

Assets are the building blocks of long-term financial stability and success. Having a savings account, a college education, a home, or a small business can help individuals and families live securely today, weather difficult financial times, plan for the future, and pass assets on to the next generation. Heartland Alliance is a lead provider of asset-building programs and works with others to advocate for programs and priorities that create asset-building opportunities for individuals and families of all income levels.  Read more about our efforts in asset-building.

Income Supports

Public programs such as medical coverage, food stamps, and temporary cash assistance provide families with critical supports that help them meet basic needs, maintain employment, and escape poverty. Heartland Alliance is an established leader in improving access among eligible individuals and families and working to improve policies and systems to provide support that assists people in moving toward stability. Poverty

Poverty is the absence of human rights. It is the manifestation of the failure to realize the right to food, to shelter, to health care, and to decent work. Moreover, it robs individuals and families of the dignity to which we are all entitled. Heartland Alliance is fundamentally committed to ensuring that all people can live lives free from poverty. We work aggressively to address poverty in our state and nation, pushing for a comprehensive vision and plan to make opportunity for all a reality.  Read more about efforts to address poverty.

Housing

Ensuring a family can live a life with dignity and stability is about more than a home. It is about addressing the host of barriers that face a vulnerable family that threaten their ability to keep a roof over their head. Heartland Alliance's cutting-edge and highly successful programmatic work with families in public housing is leading the way toward policy changes on the national level that implement the best practices that we have both developed and implemented.
