After a year of conversations, hearings, and research, the Commission on the Elimination of Poverty released its comprehensive plan for cutting extreme poverty in half in Illinois by 2015. The Commission's Plan provides a timeline for program and funding priorities to cut extreme poverty. The report, Building a Pathway to Dignity and Work: A Plan to Cut Extreme Poverty in Half by 2015 in Illinois, includes substantive, measurable policy recommendations that will increase stability and opportunity for Illinois’s most vulnerable citizens.

Poverty Elimination Strategies that Work: A Human Rights Tool Kit for Addressing Poverty in Your Community, highlights numerous local solutions that are currently being implemented in communities around the state and the country. This report is meant to be a resource to assist neighborhood groups, faith communities, service providers, policymakers, and others, in creating solutions to fundamentally address poverty. The report provides over 50 Poverty Elimination Strategies that Work along with hyperlinks to sources which contain information about highlighted solutions and additional resources that may be useful in developing and implementing poverty elimination strategies locally.

Extreme Poverty and Human Rights: A Primer

Everyone deserves the opportunity to have a roof over their head, to put food on the table and to give their children a chance at a bright future, but that opportunity does not exist for the hundreds of thousands of people in Illinois living in extreme poverty. Freedom from this barrier requires a comprehensive vision and plan.This primer will provide the tools to understand the role of opportunity and human rights in eradicating poverty.

Realizing Human Rights in Illinois: A Report on the Poverty to Opportunity Action Forums

In response to conversations and enthusiasm across the state, the From Poverty to Opportunity Campaign is advancing legislation in Illinois to create a Commission on the Elimination of Poverty in Illinois, grounded in international human rights standards, which would develop a strategic plan to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015 in Illinois. With over 250 organizations, faith communities, and governments, as well more than 1,600 individuals from every legislative district in the state, this campaign is building a movement toward change that will make freedom from poverty a reality in Illinois.
