In Illinois, more that 1 out of every 4 people live at or near poverty. Children are particularly vulnerable. Of all the people living in poverty in Illinois, 1 out of every 3 is a child under the age of 17.
Policy and Advocacy
Through our advocacy efforts, Heartland Alliance strives to achieve systemic social change that improves the quality of life for people in poverty and danger. Our 120 years of expertise in the trenches providing direct services gives us a unique understanding of the administrative and policy barriers that plague public systems. We work to advance proven solutions and improve government policies at the local, state, and federal levels by developing policy proposals, building strategic alliances, and pursuing legislative action. Our work is grounded in the belief that every person should have access to basic human rights.
