Working to End Homelessness Project

The National Transitional Jobs Network launched the Working to End Homelessness Initiative in 2011 with the generous support of the Butler Family Fund. Our goal was to shine a spotlight on the important role of employment solutions in addressing homelessness and to identify and disseminate promising employment practices. We convened over 20 experienced workforce development professionals in 16states that operate a diverse set of employment models include transitional jobs, supported employment, social enterprise, work readiness training and alternative staffing. These programs worked alongside us for almost a year - sharing their own best practices, highlighting lessons learned, lifting up effective and promising employment solutions, and identifying policy and systems challenges to their work. ntjn community of practice - directory3

The Working to End Homelessness Best Practice Series highlights lessons learned from these efforts and what we know from research. The series is intended for employment and homeless service providers, program staff, and policymakers who want to learn more about helping individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness become successful in employment. We hope these tools and resources can support current and future implementation of employment services while spurring attention and investment in these services; best practice and model research; and system integration to support the employment needs and aspirations of these populations.

3. People experiencing homelessness have diverse needs and strengths.

4. There is still much to learn in enhancing and advancing workforce services for diverse individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
