Severe Mental Illness/Addiction Mental Health Services

Part of the rebuilding efforts in post-conflict countries includes improvements in the provision of services by government agencies. In the area of mental health services, such improvements may entail adding trainings, staffing and enhancing infrastructure in existing systems, as well as supplying refined procedures, policies and related administrative improvements. Mental health services may have been neglected during periods of conflict, or may never have received adequate resources in the past. But mental health needs become even more necessary in these contexts, which produce higher levels of psychological trauma or an increase in cases of addictions.

Heartland Alliance has been working in partnership with Iraqi and Kurdish Regional Government ministries to improve mental health service delivery through the following projects:
