Designs for Dignity: Leland ApartmentsHeartland Housing, the housing partner of Heartland Alliance, purchased the 175-unit Leland SRO in May of 1999 to preserve affordable housing in the gentrifying neighborhood of Uptown. Once complete, the historic preservation will provide 137 units of supportive housing to low-income and formerly homeless individuals. Heartland Housing will develop 50 units for the Pathways Home supportive housing program administered by Heartland Health Outreach, the health care partner of Heartland Alliance. Pathways Home will provide supportive services to individuals dually diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse. Heartland Housing commenced renovations in June 2004, with final occupancy to be achieved in 2005. Designs for Dignity will specify and procure in-kind donations and wholesale furnishings for the units, through its relationships within the design industry. In addition to the units, areas to be furnished include the lobby, meeting rooms, and management offices. Design Team Architect Property Management
